Cosmetic-aesthetic Dentistry / Αισθητική Οδοντιατρική

Hello there again!

Been a while away for my holidays, that is why I had not posted anything recently. I apologize for the long wait, but you must understand that I really needed some time off my work otherwise I would have serious health problems since my anxiety levels have been building up rapidly lately.

Ok, today we will talk about something more general like what is really cosmetic dentistry?

Today we hear and we see everywhere, in the news, on tv, on the sunday newspaper the same old song: cosmetic dentistry.

So what is this fuss all about, and what does this cosmetic-aesthetic dentistry has to offer that can make our lives better?

All these answers are given today on this post. So let's get started shall we?

Cosmetic Dentistry is all about aesthetics. Meaning making your smile, and therefore your teeth more beautiful than before. You can do things to your teeth that you never imagined before. You can make your teeth whiter, as white as snow if you like, you can change the way your teeth look. Are your teeth small and narrow? You can change your teeth to anything you like: wide, narrow, tall, small, more square or round. You name it your cosmetic-aestheitc dentist can give you the solutions to your problems.

Do you always wanted to have this beautiful Tom Cruise smile? Well you can have it!

And now let's get down as to how you can have all these amazing things...

Teeth whitening/bleaching - with this procedure you can have your teeth whitened and make them as white as you want. Sky is the limit here, you can choose how white your teeth will look like, it is just a matter of how many times you will need to go through with this procedure to get the whiteness that you desire. The price range for teeth whitening is from 300 euros to almost 1500 euros.

Bonding - this is a procedure where the cosmetic dentist rearranges the contours of your teeth placing composite resin on the front panel of your teeeth (the anterior-front ones). This requires a small amount of tooth tissue to be removed but nothing much nonetheless. Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks on this. First of all this is a really long termed procedure. It takes about 3 hours or so to get all your front teeth bonded and it is quite tiring. Secondly you should consider the cost of this procedure. It is almost 300 euros per teeth. Quite expensive, but if you are only to do two or three teeth then bonding is your choice.

Porcelain veneers - now this is almost the same as bonding only that instead of a composite resin material you have porcelain. Porcelain veneers cover the front surface of your teeth. In order for them to be placed 0.5mm of tooth tissue is removed (or more depending on the patient case) and then an impression of the prepared teeth is taken and sent to the dental technician in order for him to make the porcelain veneers. You will be given temporary veneers for the time that your permanent porcelain veneers will be manufactured. The only disadvantage of this procedure is that porcelain is fragile. You have to be really careful after the placement of your porcelain veneers so as not to break them! Well beauty always comes at a cost. Porcelain veneers cost about 350 to 600 euros a piece.

Jewellery - You can attach little jewels to your front teeth to make them look a bit more sparkly. This does no harm whatsoever to your teeth, it looks really beautiful and it lasts a long time. The only drawback I can think of is that sometimes the little jewel comes off but htat is rather rare. The price for this is fair - only a mere 20 to 50 or more if you want some really expensive jewllery on your teeth!
